▪ What is Vastu Veda?
Vastu Veda is the ancient Indian science of spatial design. By following its guidelines, you can create a room, office, home or even an entire city that is in harmony with natural energy flows and the greater cosmic order. To this end, Vastu Veda addresses how to build using the ideal proportions, orientation and location.
▪ Where does Vastu Veda come from?
The Bhāgavata Purāṇa, a historical text written over 5,000 years ago, informs us in Volume 3, Chapter 12, Verse 38 that Brahmā, the first created being, manifested the four Upavedas, namely the medical, military, musical and manufacturing sciences:
āyur-vedaḿ dhanur-vedaḿ
gāndharvaḿ vedam ātmanaḥ
sthāpatyaḿ cāsṛjad vedaḿ
kramāt pūrvādibhir mukhaiḥ
The term "Sthapatya Veda" here is the original name of Vastu Veda.
Volume 6, Chapter 6, Verse 15 tells us as well about the original master of Vastu Veda:
vāstor āńgirasī-putro
viśvakarmākṛtī-patiḥ
tato manuś cākṣuṣo 'bhūd
viśve sādhyā manoḥ sutāḥ
One of the universal forefathers, Vāstu, had a son named Viśvakarmā, who became the celestial architect and first proponet of Vastu Veda.
▪ How can Vastu Veda help me?
Although there are many factors that affect our heath, wealth and success in life, the design of our surroundings is a critical component. Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms?
Fatigue or lack of motivationConstant stress or tension
Insomnia or overeating
Lack of mental clarity
Financial misfortune or legal problems
Discord with spouse or coworkers
Behavioral/performance problems with children/employees
If so, the Vastu of your home or office may be off, and your environment may be hindering your full potential. Quick and simple changes could enhance your or your company’s creativity, productivity and well-being, and enrich your family or business relationships.
▪ Can't I ust buy a Vastu book? Why do I need a consultant?
There are certainly a wide variety of books available on Vastu Veda. These can be a great introduction to this sophisticated science, and can acquaint you with some of the basics. When it comes to re-arranging your home or business, however, a little knowledge can be worse than no knowledge. Why take a chance?
While this may be your first project and you've only been studying for a month, your professional consultant has years of EXPERIENCE dealing with hundreds of cases.
While "do-it-yourself" books present a sampling of some elementary rules, your professional consultant has a PROFOUND UNDERSTANDING of the principles behind the rules, gained over years of study and meditation.
While many of the rules may seem to contradict each other or may be difficult to apply in your home or business, your professional consultant has the CREATIVITY to synthesize the various prescriptions both with each other and with your practical needs to produce a harmonious solution, customized to your situation.
▪ How long will it take before I see the effects of improved Vastu?
You will feel some of the more subtle effects almost overnight, with the more tangible effects manifesting after several weeks or more.
▪ Do I have to be Hindu for Vastu Veda to work?
No, Vastu Veda is not dependent on your belief system. Just as there is a science to cooking (cut up some ingredients, put them in a dish, add some oil and some spices, and heat everything up) that doesn’t change whether you’re making stir-fry in Shanghai, beans in Brazil or apple pie in Alabama, so there is a universal science to arranging your living and working space. The terms used have an Indian flavor, but the principles behind them are applicable everywhere. It doesn’t even matter what type of decor or furniture you use or what kind of architectural style you prefer.
▪ Do I have to remodel my home or office to have good Vastu?
Although there are detailed guidelines that begin from the very choice of your plot, Vastu Veda also contains strategies for correcting already existing structures. These include altering how you use your space or what color you paint it, as well as an array of ameliorative devices, such as plants, pictures, music, water, mirrors and Vedic geometric diagrams called yantras. Practically no place has 100% ideal Vastu, even those constructed from scratch, and these methods can bring any space up to 95% or more compliance.
▪ How is Vastu Veda different from Feng Shui?
Most practitioners of Vastu Veda will explain that Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of spatial design, is a later derivative of its Indian counterpart. Such an understanding is not surprising, given that other aspects of the Vedic culture can be found throughout the world. Buddhism, for example, started in northeastern India, but later spread to much of southeast Asia. Martial arts also seem to have migrated, as evidenced by the use of Sanskrit terms to describe the fighting positions in Kung Fu.
In a similar way, Vastu Veda was incorporated into the Taoist tradition of China and became Feng Shui. Both deal with the flow of life energy (called “prana” in Vastu Veda and “chi” in Feng Shui) and both share some basic principles (such as keeping living spaces uncluttered), but Vastu Veda is more complete and scientific, whereas Feng Shui can be unsystematic and even superstitious.
